Personal - 29/12/2016 Paying My Respects.

When I first watched Star Wars I wasn't expecting such a strong female presences, Ms Fisher brought a brilliant performance and it really inspired me to become my own person, so I hope that the force is with her family and that she and her mother both travel across the stars in peace. We have lost a wonderful, inspiring person.

UPDATE: Apple Pie Asset

Simple Apple Pie asset design, unsure on the inner pie colour at the moment. Ideas?

UPDATE: Revisited Iron

I redid the iron as the previous edition looked to sophisticated for the world that I'm trying to make. I am having some issues with the toon-lines for it which I've recorded and will be sending Ethan's way for some advice! But it feels good to be back into this again. Had to really distance myself for personal reasons but I back into it and will be bringing more assets to the board soon! =D

@Phil - Which method for the tree?

I've been playing around with the lines for the tree and can just about get it to look like my drawings with the first one, but I also did the original toon line experiment just to see what it would look like. I don't know what method would be better for it. Personally I prefer the neat one, but that's only because it fits with the other assets. Either one and  I need to work out whether I can do the star/decorations in post- in after effects or incorporate them into it there with the same method?

Update: Low-Res Tree Model.

I started modelling the tree asset in Maya as the story boarding process has got me up against a wall!

Its just a simple low polly res mesh that I'll be applying my toon lines to it.

@Phil - Tree Gif

I attempted something simple just to see if I was on the same page as you from what you were saying this morning?

@Phil - Storyboard Idea

This is the storyboard that I sent over before, I went back to it and added the line/string effect, the line/string sort of reveals the world like we discussed before, and objects that are assets will be revealed as full 3D objects. I think making the line/string red would not only fit with the branding but also make it visible in the white space. We can discuss more in the tutorial tomorrow?

Personal Work: 13/11/2016 - Supernatural Fan Art + Life Drawing Study

After Thursdays very successful presentation, I thought I would award myself with a change to catch up on Supernatural over this weekend while I work on some Dissertation and some story boarding. Took a break and I drew this. I'm rather impressed with it if I'm honest, as this is probably the first human figure I've drawn in a while as my project doesn't feature characters. My tablet died before I could really do much with it, I could have added a few tattoos in relation with the show but I think it's okay as it is. :D

Update: Iron Asset

Rending these toon lines is becoming confusing the more I try. But this is the closest I got to a render image unfortunately the back plane was black even though its actually white. I might put a light in there to see if that works. If not I think I saw some tutorials on toon shaders? I think that might be helpful.

Update: Rotoscoping the Living Room.

So far so good, I have just over a second (Extended to fit real time only about 18 frames) of footage of the living room asset in rotoscope. I will be finishing this by the weekend hopefully. It's a tedious process but the outcome will look really cool :D

Update: Living-Room Environment Play-blast and Render (Add later)

I have play-blasted a quick pan through the living room asset to be used to rotoscope the proper environment later. I have also rendered it for some nice edges and easier viewing for me.
I had a little shadowing issues with this one. Fixed it in the following shots.

Update: Living-room Enviroment.

As I need some environment, or space, to go along side my animation assets. I've quickly and easily built my Grandparents old living room from memory. I just need to animate a camera through it after I give the place a better render, I am not texturing it, as I will be rotoscoping the camera shots as it moves around.

Update: Experimenting with Roto-Scoping.

I decided to do a little research in how to use different ways of roto-scoping. The method with Adobe Flash/CC Animate seemed to be the easiest - However there seems to be brush strokes that run away from me. I didn't not intend there to be that many missing strokes. Even the environment was filled out. So much time it took to do this and the program pulls a fast one on me. Back to google!

In any case here is a a short clip I did manage to make - despite the program deleting my brush strokes :O

Update: Old-Spice Bottle with label and Trifle Start

I used curves and the applying a brush stroke technique that Ethan showed us to create the text on the bottle, it's had a very cool effect actually.

I've made the trifle bowl, I'm not sure why all the lines (the top line is apparently the actual toon node.) are not coloured in green - I'll have to to go through each option to see what I can change to make it green. It looks alright in black too. But it's got to be green, to at least match my drawing.

I'm having a issue figuring out how to fill the interior, I don't know whether the use nParticles, or something else. *puzzled face* I got to make a swiss-roll filled jelly substance, the custard and the dream topping. Hmm.

Bottle - looks like my drawing doesn't it? :D

Trifle bowl. I added the red ball to show that the technique above for the bottle is also applied here.

Update: Created Old-Spice Bottle Asset

Using the tips that Ethan gave me I started to mess around with them and created this first asset. I have tried to get it as close to my original drawing as possible as well.

Update: Experimenting In Maya

I have started experimenting with the techniques suggested to me and I seem to have worked out how to get only as far as applying a brush stroke to the model, I can't seem to understand how that then transpires into a 3D object simulated via the curves. I'll have to ask Ethan that. But I think I actually prefer the transparency bottle, I just need to figure out how to generate these brush curves onto the model to give it a solid place in an environment.

I was thinking how I can use this curve method to generate my animation - using the memory theory of it being a written or literal thread of thought - therefore using the curves and the brush strokes to lead the viewer to each asset.

At least the first asset has been modelled. So that's some progress.

Following Ethan's Advice
I followed the tips that Ethan gave me and this is just one side of the bottle, I'll need to work out how to encompass the entirety of the bottle, I've tried it but I have not yet screen shot it. Just to explain it basically looks like tones of rope was thrown over the bottle, not very outline like to be honest.

Transparency.
Like I said before I tried a transparency effect on the hyper shade (Lambert shade) just to see how it would work. I kinda like it and I now need to put a thick outline on it. Just need to work out how! Maybe there is something within Maya that will let me if not perhaps in after effects? I think some research is needed now. That and a few questions to throw Ethan's way when he's not busy with the current project.

Personal Work: Commission 09/10/16

I had a friend who wanted me to take a wack at drawing a mount from a game that we played. It's fan art and I love how it turned out so I wanted to share it here. Now it's back to trifles!

@Phil - Asset Quick - List

As per discussed into today's tutorial, I've got this quick-list of assets that I've plucked from the script. Including environments. I think I got it all here. (I'll do the presentation way soon. Just wanted to get a list out.)

Branding Progress: Possible logo?

I seemed to have this concept of making line art look 3D into my head now and it's a very neat concept. So I took the idea and applied it to my own hand-print that I drew around and scanned. I have the original and the adapted piece bellow. If I could make this this hand in 3D I'd love to apply the techniques I'm hopefully going to learn to use on it.

Update: Project Branding Progress - Hand-drawn Fonts

I took out my tablet and tried to write my own font, considering it would be easier if I can simulate this when making a title or a logo or something. I've written on it what my views are on them all. I think I'll look at some branding - play around with my own hand-print which I've scanned into the pc already.
